The Green Schoolyard Network has chosen not to incorporate immediately as a free-standing non-profit organization. As a process oriented network we want our membership to decide whether we should ultimately incorporate, affiliate, or use a fiscal sponsor. A fiscal sponsor is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization that allows start-up programs, or those that simply prefer this option, to use them as an “umbrella” under which it is possible to accept donations and operate as a legal entity. We have chosen FJC, in New York City, as our fiscal sponsor because of their spotless reputation and their very reasonable fee for services. FJC also provides a valuable service in maintaining all of our financial records, assisting in donor relations and all legally mandated monitoring & reporting with regard to GSN activities.
